Here are a few pictures of the maiden flight of the Ultra SPAD Stick. Like to give a thank you out to the folks at the Belleville R/C Flyers Club for all the help in getting it airborne, and also a special thanks to Dan for Crashing it ever so gently. The first flight did not last long, only about 4 minutes due to a carburetor malfunction which caused the motor to run at a high idle with no control of the throttle. But thanks to an excellent pilot the only damage that resulted from the crash was a broken landing gear bracket.
Aftermath of USS Crash Due to a structural failure of the forward PVC former that the motor mount bolts to, the motor departed in flight. No one was injured, I was at an altitude of approximately 250 feet and about 1000 yards out from the field. The incident occurred when after making a slow half throttle loop around the field I went into a climb of about 30 degrees and throttled up to full power. That's when the motor accelerated up and forward with out the plane attached anymore. Motor and plane were retrieved with little damage. Damage was a broken prop, landing gear torn off fuselage, foreword PVC former cracked, wing spar cracked. Here are some pics.
